The Art of the Burn

To ensure your Crown & Root botanical blend performs flawlessly for its entire 40+ hour lifespan, please follow these essential care practices:

  • The Memory Burn: Wood wicks require patience. On your very first light, allow the candle to burn until the melted wax pool reaches all the way to the edge of the glass (typically 2 to 4 hours). Wax has a "memory," and this prevents the candle from tunneling (leaving wax on the edge of the jar) downward on future burns.

  • The Wick Routine: A wood wick will not stay lit if it is too long or if charred wood is left on top. Before every single burn, gently pinch away the burnt, brittle edge of the wick with your fingers or a wick trimmer. The wood should be roughly 3/16" above the wax for an ideal, crackling flame.

  • The Environment: Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings or debris. Always burn your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, open windows, and moving air, which can cause the flame to smoke or burn unevenly.

  • The Farewell: Never extinguish the wick with the bamboo lid provided, blow it out gently or use a candle snuffer. Let the candle cool before replacing the lid. To prevent the glass from overheating, extinguish your candle when there is exactly 1/2 inch of wax remaining at the bottom of the vessel. Burning a candle with little to no wax left is not recommended.

  • Give Your Vessel a Second Life: Built to outlast the burn. Once your candle has finished, we love seeing how you repurpose these heavy glass vessels, whether as minimalist plant propagation stations, desk organization, candy jars or vanity storage. Tag us @crownandrootbotanica to share yours. Tip: To get out the remaining wax simply leave it in the freezer for 24+ hours, and the wax should pop out with a good smack on the glass bottom, use a spoon to scoop out any residue and the wick base. Light soap and water wash and rinse.
