Our Story

For as long as I can remember, candles have burned in my family home during the holidays. Those warm, familiar scents instantly evoking the comfort of loved ones, good food, and a peaceful retreat from the world. I’ve always been deeply drawn to the way a physical space shapes how we feel, especially within our most sacred environment: home.

After purchasing our first house, I wanted to cultivate that exact same sanctuary. But nearly eight years ago, a frightening close call with a cheap, mass-market candle - where the wax abruptly ignited - changed everything. Fortunately, I was able to safely contain it, but that single moment became a turning point. I refused to burn toxic, unpredictable synthetics in my home ever again.

Out of that necessity, I began crafting my own clean-burning candles. What started as a creative passion for mastering nature inspired scent profiles and safe chemistries soon grew into gifting pieces to friends and family, and finally, into this studio.

Now, I am deeply honored to share these creations with you. Our homes are our sanctuary from a loud and demanding world. I’ve realized true luxury isn't just about how a space looks—it's about how a space makes you feel the moment you walk through the door.

The Philosophy of Crown & Root

A thriving botanical system requires two things: a crown that reaches for the light and a root system anchored deep into the heavy earth.

We build our fragrances using this exact architecture. Every candle in our studio is deliberately balanced between crisp, clarifying top notes (the crown) and deep, resinous base notes (the roots). Crown & Root Botanica is built on this premise: honoring the ancestral roots that ground us, while cultivating the clarity to look upward. It is a philosophy of growth designed to anchor your space and elevate your mind.

The Craft & Our Standards of Purity

There are no shortcuts in our studio. Based in the Midwest, every vessel is meticulously hand-poured in small batches using a clean-burning 100% premium soy wax, sustainably sourced wooden wicks, and highly complex botanical fragrance accords.

We curate our raw materials to ensure a safe, sustainable burn. Our premium soy wax is paraffin-free, biodegradable, and classified as non-hazardous under strict global safety standards. Furthermore, our custom fragrance profiles are completely free of phthalates and rigorously adhere to RIFM and IFRA guidelines for purity.

We strip away the visual noise. No brightly colored jars or dyed wax. Each candle is a minimalist design piece: heavy matte black glass, warm bamboo lids, golden filigree typography that catches the light, and a soft-crackling flame. It is an elegant, grounding addition that works quietly in the background to bring peace to your space.

What began as a passion project has grown into something more. I’m grateful of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.
